Browns: Twitter reacts to Baker Mayfield's first game since being freed

Browns' Twitter had a field day after Baker Mayfield's big game.

The Browns were absolutely brilliant against the Bengals on Sunday, led by the immaculate play of Baker Mayfield. Mayfield, who went through an up and down week following the release of Odell Beckham Jr., needed a big game to help silence the critics. Many were taking footage Beckham's father posted online out of context and presenting it as fact.

It was so misrepresented that some in the NFL media bit down on the video and got outed as being absolute fools in the process. All Mayfield did following Beckham's release was dominate the Bengals from the jump, aided by a stellar game from Nick Chubb.

Mayfield continues to be masterful without Beckham, who was exposed for sabotaging plays when he would freelance in a timing-based offense, thereby leaving his teammates high and dry. It's a revelation that proves that not only was Beckham at fault for how he was used in the Browns' system but also seemingly vindicated Mayfield.

He just had to show up against the Bengals and prove that he was in fact the quarterback many thought he was as a rookie, and in 2020, the two seasons he played largely without Beckham. Not only did Mayfield play well, but he also played smart. He threw the ball away a handful of times and threw what incompletions he did have, in the best spot possible, ensuring that if a Browns receiver couldn't get to it then no one could.

Twitter of course had a field day over Mayfield's game.
